Tees Valley Muslim Council: Rallying for Peace in Gaza

Published November 02, 2023 By

In a world rife with conflicts and crises, there are moments when individuals and communities come together to stand up for a just cause. Such is the case with the Tees Valley Muslim Council, which is organizing a Peace March and Demonstration for Gaza, set to take place on Sunday, November 5th, at 2:00 pm. The gathering point for this significant event will be Centre Square, Albert Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 2QJ, with a pre-planned route provided in an attached image.

The underlying goal of this initiative is to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine and to call upon the British Government to intervene swiftly. The aim is clear: secure a ceasefire and deliver essential humanitarian aid to Gaza. This Peace March and Demonstration is designed to unite our community, bringing together diverse groups and individuals who seek a peaceful resolution in Palestine. It's an opportunity to peacefully voice concerns and advocate for a cause that resonates globally.

Shaufqat Rashid, Chairman of the Tees Valley Muslim Council, aptly describes the urgency of the situation: "The pain and despair that grips Gaza is heart-wrenching. People in Gaza are dying in the darkness, and their cries for help resonate across the world. This unthinkable horror cannot be undone, and history will not forgive those who refused to treat Israeli and Palestinian lives with equal worth. Our humanity demands that we act swiftly and decisively. Please, we need a ceasefire now."

Najabat Ramzan, Chairperson of Jamia Mosque in Middlesbrough, emphasizes the dire circumstances in Gaza, stating, "Over two million people in Gaza, half of whom are children, are facing possible starvation, with no safe place to escape Israeli bombing. Even hospitals and schools are being bombed. Since October 7th, when Hamas committed a horrendous rocket attack and took Israeli hostages, the Israeli response has been disproportionate and reckless to the safety of thousands of Palestinian citizens. Israel is practicing collective punishment on a whole nation against International law. This response cannot be allowed to continue. Whole families have been wiped out, and one Gazan child dies every ten minutes. We support an immediate ceasefire."

The Tees Valley Muslim Council extends a heartfelt invitation to all individuals and groups who are deeply concerned about the situation in Gaza. This event is an opportunity to stand in solidarity and raise your voice for peace in Gaza.
