Magical Snowman Trail Arrives in Middlesbrough

Published November 03, 2019 By

MIDDLESBROUGH town centre has seen the arrival of 12 giant snowman sculptures this weekend in a tribute to Raymond Briggs' magical classic The Snowman.

Presented by Wild in Art, and in association with Penguin Ventures, part of Penguin Random House UK, the 1.65m sculptures have been decorated by professional artists around a 12 days of Christmas theme and will be displayed in the North East for the very first time.

The public will be able to pick up a trail brochure from Middlesbrough Town Hall, Central Library, Cleveland Centre, Baker Street Kitchen and Psyche and follow the magical trail until January 4, taking their very own ‘Snowfies' (Snowman selfies) en route using the hashtag #TheSnowmanWalkBoro.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston has been given a sneak preview of three of the snowmen that were decorated at the Creative Factory in Hillstreet shopping centre ahead of the launch of the Walking with The Snowman trail.

He said: "Christmas just wouldn't be the same without The Snowman and the ones I've seen are looking absolutely brilliant.

"I absolutely love them and I'm sure everyone who comes into Middlesbrough and sees them is going to love them as well.

"I'd say to everyone, pick up a trail brochure, get your Snowfies on social media and start getting in the mood for what's going to be a magical Christmas in Middlesbrough."

Ben Reed, Head of Creative Development at Wild in Art said: "We're really excited to continue our ongoing partnership with Penguin Ventures on Walking with The Snowman in our new location of Middlesbrough for 2019. We can't wait to see how the artists develop the '12 days of Christmas' theme and bring Raymond Brigg's magical Snowmen to life."

Trail brochures are available from the following locations:

  • Town Hall
  • Central Library
  • Cleveland Centre
  • Baker Street Kitchen
  • Psyche
