Overnight Closures as A66 Works Move to Next Phase

Published January 03, 2020 By

A SERIES of overnight closures of a section of the A66 will take place tonight and over the weekend as the "through-about" works move into the next phase.

Starting on Monday, January 6, work will begin to construct the new carriageway through the central island of the A66 Roundabout at the junction of Cargo Fleet Lane.

Ahead of latest phase of works starting, the necessary overnight closures have been programmed for Friday, January 3, Saturday January 4 and Sunday, January 5, between 8pm and 6am - deliberately over the weekend to minimise disruption to the travelling public.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted via the A172 Longlands Spur Road, A1085 Longlands Road, A171 Cargo Fleet Lane, South Bank Road and Middlesbrough Road, whilst westbound traffic will be diverted via Middlesbrough Road, Brunel Road, Sotherby Road, Skipper's Lane, A1085 Trunk Road, A1085 Longlands Road and the A172 Longlands Spur Road.

Both of these diversion routes will be clearly signposted. Access to Cambridge Road will only be possible via Works Road whilst the overnight closures are in operation.

Drivers should also be aware that from Monday, January 6 onwards, it will no longer be possible for vehicles to turn right or ‘U'-turn at the A66 Roundabout.  Cambridge Road and Works Road will operate on a ‘left in, left out' basis, with access to both roads only available from the A66 (eastbound).
