Dementia-Friendly Jungle Book at Town’s Cineworld

By Published June 14, 2017

A DISNEY classic is the latest offering in a Middlesbrough cinema’s support for those with dementia.

Cineworld Middlesbrough’s Dementia-Friendly screening of The Jungle Book will take place on Monday, June 19.

Dementia-Friendly screenings enable people living with dementia and their carers to attend the cinema in a safe and comfortable environment, giving them the chance to get out and socialise.

Screenings are open to everyone, but are enhanced to suit the needs of people living with dementia: during the film low lights are left on inside the auditorium, the volume of the soundtrack is reduced and it’s fine for members of the audience to express themselves.

The staff on duty for these screenings have become Dementia Friends to help provide support before, during and after the screenings, as well as making the venue generally more Dementia Friendly.

The initiative has proved hugely popular in Middlesbrough, with more than 600 people attending the six screenings held to date.

Wheelchair spaces are limited so advance bookings are recommended. A flexible refund policy is in place.

  • Cineworld Middlesbrough’s Dementia-Friendly screening of The Jungle Book will take place on Monday, June 19 from 11am, with doors opening at 10.30am.

Bookings can be made in person at the Box Office or at www.cineworld.co.uk
