Under Government lockdown guidance in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, since March the number of mourners permitted to attend services at Teesside Crematorium has been limited to eight.
That number will rise to 15 with effect from today (Friday, May 22) to reflect national moves to ease the lockdown.
The number of people permitted to attend burials in cemeteries will remain at 15.
All those attending services are reminded to observe the current guidance around maintaining a two-metre distance from people from other households.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "It has been essential that we take every possible measure to combat the spread of Coronavirus.
"That has had an inevitable impact on people's ability to gather, most notably at events such as funerals.
"That has been extremely difficult for many people, and we are grateful for their patience and understanding.
"As lockdown measures are gradually eased, we are pleased to be able to increase the number of mourners able to attend services.
"The Council will continue to monitor and review these arrangements in line with Government guidance, and further announcements will be made in due course."
