The scheme features a ‘throughabout' - a signalised roundabout with two lanes of traffic in each direction running through the middle of it - at the A66/A171 Cargo Fleet Lane junction.
The project also includes the introduction of a signal-controlled crossroads at the junction of Cargo Fleet Lane and South Bank Road, and ‘high mast' lighting on the section of the A66 between Middlehaven Interchange and the Cargo Fleet junction.
Both the A66/A171 Cargo Fleet Throughabout and the Cargo Fleet Lane/South Bank Road junction will open to traffic from this Sunday, August 30.
The new traffic signals will be fully operational from that date, and the current traffic restrictions - including the lane closures on the A66 and the closure of Cargo Fleet Lane between the A66 and South Bank Road - will be removed.
The high mast lighting works are programmed for completion on Friday, September 11.
A series of overnight closures of the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A66 will be required between Monday, August 24 and Monday, September 7 in order to carry out these works safely.
Each of these closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am, with diversion routes clearly signposted. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained at all times.
Councillor Ashley Waters, Middlesbrough Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, said: "I am delighted to be able to confirm the completion dates for this important scheme, and I would like to thank everyone affected - including local businesses and regular road users - for their patience during the construction works.
"The closures of the A66 are necessary to ensure the safety of the site operatives whilst the high mast lighting columns are installed.
"However, by carrying these works out overnight, disruption to the travelling public will be minimised, with suitable diversion routes clearly signed.
"As ever, I would ask drivers to exercise caution when passing through the junction until the works are complete."
