Bulky Waste Collections Resume from Today

Published July 20, 2020 By

MIDDLESBROUGH'S bulky waste collections have begun again (Monday, July 20).

The service had been temporarily paused due to the Coronavirus outbreak but both the free and premium options are set to resume.

However, residents should be aware that for the moment mattresses cannot be collected owing to national health and safety guidance for disposing of them.

Bulky waste is classed as any household item for disposal which won't fit in a wheelie bin.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: "We're pleased to be able to re-introduce this service for residents.

"You can either book a free collection, or a premium collection. The free collection service is very popular, so when you phone up and make a booking, the Customer Centre will be able to tell you the waiting time for a collection in your area.

"We know that some people can't wait for several months to get rid of their items. So you can also use our premium bulky waste collection service, where you can pay for your items to be collected within three weeks. You'll need to pay for your collection to secure your collection date."

Charges for the premium service are:

  • £20 for up to 5 items (depending on weight)
  • £40 for up to 10 items (depending on weight)
  • £60 for up to 15 items (depending on weight)

Waste can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Haverton Hill. However, residents are reminded that the site now requires people to pre-book an appointment.
