The carriageway upgrades are happening on the A172 Stokesley Road, from just south of The Grove near the Rudds Arms to the A174 junction.
Work is ongoing between 7pm and midnight, and it is expected that the resurfacing will be completed by Wednesday (February 5).
Road closures are in effect, with fully signed diversions in place.
A Middlesbrough Council spokesman says: “These essential upgrades are part of a major programme of highway improvements taking place across the borough, with work being carried out at off-peak times wherever possible.
