Middlesbrough Residents Encouraged to Vote by Post

By Published February 11, 2021

A REMINDER is being issued by Middlesbrough Council that postal voting should be considered ahead of future elections.

Due to coronavirus concerns, voters are being encouraged to register in just a few simple steps.

Voters can visit Middlesbrough Council's website to download a postal vote registration form, or alternatively the electoral services team can be contacted direct on 01642 729771 and a form will be sent out in the post.

The reminder comes ahead of the Tees Valley Mayoral and Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland elections due to be held in May.

A postal vote can be arranged for a single election if a voter will be away on the day of the election and it can also be arranged for a set period which can benefit students or anyone regularly working away from home.

Permanent postal voters have the benefit of being able to skip the polling queues and are only required to refresh their voting preferences every five years.

Cllr Chris Hobson, Middlesbrough Council's Executive Member for Finance and Governance, said: "Voting by post is simple, and given the current climate it reduces the risk of Covid transmissions in the community. If less people are heading to the polling stations the chance of picking up the virus is greatly reduced.

"It takes just a few minutes and once you have registered for a permanent postal vote you don't have to worry about it for another five years."
