Green Waste Collections Return Fortnightly For 2021

Published March 10, 2021 By

MIDDLESBROUGH residents are being informed of how green waste collections will run in 2021.

The Middlesbrough Council service is set to resume on Tuesday, April 6 and will return to a fortnightly collection until the end of September.

A monthly collection service will then be place for October and November.

Last year green waste was collected from Middlesbrough households every four weeks rather than fortnightly due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Dennis McCabe, Middlesbrough Council's Executive Member for Environment, said: "We're pleased to be announcing the resumption of this valuable service for residents as we hit the spring and people are keen to get back into their gardens.

"We would urge people to take the time to have a look at the calendar so they know which days to put which bins out.

"The green waste collections are also beneficial to the environment so I would thank everyone in advance for making good use of it."

Householders are reminded that they should use the green wheelie bins only for the garden waste.

Any material left at the side of green bins will not be removed - green sacks used previously and other sacks and containers will not be collected.

Green bins are for loose, unbagged garden waste only - grass cuttings, leaves, small branches, dead plants and flowers - and should not be used to dispose of other items such as general waste, soil and rubble as these cannot be composted.

Residents are urged check their recycling calendars which can be viewed and downloaded via the Council's website to ensure they put their waste out on the correct day.

Garden waste can also be disposed of at the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Haverton Hill.

Any residents requiring a green bin or further advice and information on   the disposal of green waste can call the Environment Contact Centre on 01642 726001.
