Hublets Bring Latest Digital Tech to Town’s Libraries

Published March 09, 2023 By

Hublet tablets are the latest digital innovation to wow avid bookworms and borrowers at Middlesbrough’s libraries.

The Finnish-made high-tech devices are loanable tablets for use in the library using our new dedicated WiFi Network.

The devices are an easy-to-use, self-service solution delivering digital content suitable for everyone and require minimal IT skills.

Jukka Salonen, Hublet Director of Sales and Distribution, said: “We have been impressed with how Middlesbrough Libraries are transforming their digital offering for customers.

“We are extremely proud that they chose to include our Hublet solution to provide easier access to digital devices and content.”

The town’s Library Service received £270,000 from the first round of the Libraries Improvement Fund to provide technology upgrades to help the library adapt to the changing way people access its services.

Library Service Project Manager David Harrington, who led on Middlesbrough’s bid to the Arts Council-administered fund, said: “This fantastic grant has helped us to develop a 21st century service for all of our customers.

“The introduction of the Hublets is an exciting addition to our ever evolving digital offer.

“Middlesbrough is only the second library authority in England to enable printing directly from the Hublets using a dedicated WiFi print network.

“The Hublets will be rolled out to Middlesbrough’s libraries from April.”

Councillor Stephen Hill, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Culture & Communities, said: “This is yet another example of Middlesbrough Libraries making great use of the funding that’s out there to ensure the service remains at the cutting edge.

“The Hublets are sure to be a hit with existing users, and will doubtless bring in new subscribers looking for latest digital solutions.”
