A carer is someone who provides care and support for a parent, relative, a child or a friend who has a disability, an age related problem, mental or physical illness or alcohol or drug problems.
There are over 32,000 people locally who provide care for someone.
A charity, Carers Together, based in Redcar, is available to offer support and assistance to you.
Carers Together Foundation is an organisation dedicated to improving carers’ quality of life: they put carers first.
They give carers a voice, provide information, practical and emotional support and promote carers’ rights.

Carers Together offers:
- An Information and Support service for carers
- Help with completing Carers Assessments
- Support for carers of patients in hospitals
- A Welfare Rights service
- A Counselling service
- A Grief and Loss service
- As well as information and support for working carers and employers
