The formal application process opens on Monday 4th December 2023 and will be open until Sunday 10th December 2023. Applicants must be 18 or over when training starts in June 2024.
Chief Fire Officer Ian Hayton said: “This is your chance to join one of the country’s most successful fire and rescue services and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of your local community.”
“Being a Firefighter is more than fighting fires. We work extremely closely with our communities to prevent fires; from delivering Safer Homes Visits to ensure people have working smoke alarms, to visiting schools to educate pupils on fire safety as well as having a presence at community events to keep people safe; the role is diverse and varied.”
“We are looking for people who can work under pressure, and as part of a team to deal with complex and dangerous situations. Firefighters need to be reliable, committed to keeping fit and willing to go above and beyond to help our communities to feel safe and protected. We welcome applications from people from the many diverse backgrounds, who represent the communities that we serve.” Added the Chief Fire Officer.
Niki Taylor, a Firefighter at Thornaby Fire Station, said: “I joined the Fire Brigade in 2021 after wanting a complete career change. Since joining I have had opportunities that I wouldn’t have imagined happening. Every day is different, and every day is a chance to learn something new. The role itself is very rewarding and the encouragement and support from your peers is motivational. There is always something to get involved with and endless chances to better yourself.”
Those applying to be a Firefighter must live within the Cleveland Fire Authority area, be eligible to work in the UK and have a good all-round level of fitness.
Successful applicants will have to pass a series of, psychometric tests, physical assessments and an interview before being accepted for training.
Kieran Salvin, a Firefighter at Hartlepool Fire Station, said: “I never wanted to do a nine to five job as I always wanted one where things could always change in an instant. I was delighted to be accepted to join the Brigade. The training is hard but very rewarding, it certainly helps you mature in such a short space of time. You are working with people with ambitions and who want to help you learn and progress. It is the best job I have ever had. Every day is different.”
