Ladgate Lane carriageway repairs update

Published September 11, 2025 By

A lane on a key route through Middlesbrough will be closed for a number of months to allow for emergency repair works.

Motorists are being warned of potential ongoing delays on Ladgate Lane following damage to a culvert below the carriageway.

A contractor has now been appointed, with design work and a full repair expected to take around seven months.

While the works are undertaken the westbound lane will remain closed from just before the railway bridge at Marton Railway Station through to the junction with Marton Avenue.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation throughout.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “Following the development of a significant structural defect at Ormesby Beck Culvert on Ladgate Lane, the decision was taken to close one lane to reduce the risk of further damage.

“This unavoidable closure will be kept to a minimum but is essential to ensure the safety of the pubic and of the engineers working on this complex repair.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, and are grateful to the public for their patience and understanding while these works are carried out.”
