Residents warned over Gunnergate Lane calming works

Published September 25, 2025 By

Residents on a Middlesbrough road are being warned of potential disruption during overnight roadworks next week.

Speed cushions are being installed along a stretch of Gunnergate Lane in Marton on Tuesday (September 30).

The road will be closed from Dixon’s Bank to St Augustine’s RC Primary from 6pm to midnight, with local diversions in place to aid access.

The works are in response to concerns raised over speeding in the area following a traffic survey.

Letters have been sent to residents in the affected area, warning them that while access will still be possible, delays are likely as the work progresses.

They have been asked to remove vehicles from the road, and to avoid walking on wet surfaces while the work is being carried out.

It is hoped the traffic calming installation and resurfacing will be completed in one evening.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “While these works have been scheduled to keep any disruption to a minimum, some delays will be unavoidable.

“We are grateful to local residents for their patience and understanding.”
