They’re invited to attend a special Armed Forces Covenant signing event at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Monday, June 22 during this year’s Armed Forces Week.
It’s a chance for them to publicly demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community by signing the Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant - first signed by the Council in 2012 and again in 2020 - represents a shared promise to honour and support members of the armed forces community, ensuring they and their families are treated with fairness, respect and dignity across society.
By signing the Covenant, businesses make an important pledge to ensure that no member of the Armed Forces community faces disadvantage in employment or the services they provide.
It also represents a commitment by the Council and the town to strengthen the relationship between local communities and the military.
The event will be attended by Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke who will re-sign the Covenant on behalf of Middlesbrough Council.
Under the Covenant Middlesbrough Council is committed to:
• Working with partners to make sure that the needs of the local armed forces community are being identified and met
• Making sure that military service doesn’t result in members of the armed forces community being disadvantaged compared to other citizens
• Making sure that the contribution of the armed forces to the community is remembered, honoured and celebrated
• Remembering the sacrifices made by actively supporting local armed forces events including homecoming and freedom parades
This event is a great opportunity to:
• Show an organisation’s commitment to the Armed Forces community and demonstrate a proud, forces-friendly ethos to customers and the local community
• Network with other local businesses, reservists and dignitaries
• Learn more about the benefits of being a Covenant signatory
• Attract exceptional talent, including skilled veterans, reservists and military spouses
Signatories will also have the opportunity to achieve further recognition through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
Councillor Linda Lewis, Middlesbrough Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “Events like this embody the very best of Middlesbrough’s community spirit, and showcase our support for those prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy.
“By re-signing, we are renewing and strengthening the town’s commitment to service personnel past and present whose contribution benefits every single one of us.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to get involved and demonstrate a proud, forces-friendly ethos to customers and the wider community.”
• The event will take place in The Crypt at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Monday, June 22 between 10am and noon.
