Running Miles for Mental Health

Published October 10, 2017 By

STAFF and volunteers from Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind ran 33 miles of the Cleveland Way on Saturday (7 October) to promote the benefits of physical activity and mental health.

Running short sections of the route in small teams, 18 people completed the run in just under 12 hours.

Paul Christon, Service Manager for Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, said: “With World Mental Health Day just around the corner we organised the Endeavour Relay to highlight the benefits of physical activity.

“It was also a great way to encourage staff to get active and work together while promoting health and wellbeing in our workplace.”

The run took in some of North Yorkshire’s most loved local landmarks, from Captain Cook’s monument through to Whitby’s whale jawbones.

Claire Coulthard, volunteer for Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind, said: “To be part of the relay was a fantastic opportunity that I really enjoyed and I look forward to being part of many more in the future.

“It combined my volunteer work and my love of exercise, which has helped in my recovery and my fight against Depression.”

Middlesbrough and Stockton Mind is there for anyone who is finding it hard to cope and would like support. Contact the mental health charity on 01642 257020 or visit www.middlesbroughandstocktonmind.org.uk
