This support covers the period of national lockdown as well as the period where Middlesbrough was under Local COVID Alert Level Tier 2 (High) restrictions.
There is also further support for businesses (such as nightclubs) that have been forced to close since March 20 and some discretionary funds to best support Middlesbrough's local business economy.
The first of the schemes the Council is set to launch is for those businesses forced to close as part of the national lockdown. This came into force on Thursday, November 5.
Local Restrictions Support Grant (national lockdown)
The grant support for the business is based on the Rateable Value (RV) of the property, as follows:
- £15,000 or under - grant of £1,334 per 28 days
- £15,001 to £50,999 - grant of £2,000 per 28 days
- £51,000 and over - grant of £3,000 per 28 days
Eligible business sectors include:
- Non-essential retail
- Hospitality venues (cafes, restaurants, bars)
- Holiday accommodation (hotels, hostels, guest houses, and campsites)
- Leisure and sports facilities
- Entertainment venues
- Personal services (hair, beauty, tanning, and nail salons; tattoo and massage parlours; spas)
- Community centres.
If your business falls into one of the categories above, we are inviting applications, an on-line claim can now be made via the website.
The Tier 2 Local Restriction Scheme applies to Middlesbrough from 3rd October to 5th November. This funding is aimed at businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors, B&Bs and hotels who remained open but were severely impacted by the restrictions.
Again the grant support for the business is based on the Rateable Value (RV) of the property, as follows:
- properties with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, grants of £934 per month
- For properties with a rateable value above £15,001 - £50,999 = £1,400 per month
- For properties with a rateable value of £51,000 or above = £2,100 per month.
Applications for Tier 2 will open soon and further updates will follow over the coming weeks.
