Green waste collections back on track after breakdowns

Published September 11, 2023 By

Green waste collections across Middlesbrough are returning to normal after the service was hit by a spate of wagon breakdowns.

Scheduled collections were paused last week following the unprecedented series of mechanical failures in the Council’s vehicle fleet.

Repairs have now been carried out, with normal collections resumed on Tuesday (September 5).

Middlesbrough Council’s Recycling & Waste Services team have confirmed that excess/uncollected green waste will now be collected from affected properties on the next scheduled collection day.

Residents are remined that this only applies to properties impacted by the service suspension and will operate for one week only to ensure all excess green waste is collected.

The additional green waste must be presented in a hessian type sack/bag which will be emptied by the crew before being returned to the property.

Residents are also reminded that any green waste presented in plastic bags will not be collected.

Any bins not collected on the scheduled day should be left out for collection  at the next available opportunity.

Any further delays will be communicated via the Middlesbrough Council website and social media channels.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “An unprecedented number of breakdowns meant we had to briefly pause this popular and well used service but we’re delighted to confirm that we’re getting back on track this week.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and thank all those affected for their patience and understanding.”
