More than 9,000 people attended the Centre Square special last Saturday to enjoy the huge variety of street food, musical entertainment and arts and crafts.
Orange Pip organisers at Middlesbrough Council are now already getting to work on the market’s return to Baker and Bedford Street which will see it expanding out onto a further adjoining street.
The market across the two streets has struggled with overcrowding with an average attendance of 6,500 people since its debut in May 2016.
It is hoped the expansion for the next event on Saturday, July 29, will provide additional “breathing space” for event-goers.
Cllr Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Deputy Mayor and Executive Member for City Centre Strategy, said: “The Orange Pip Summer Special was a fantastic event and a huge success. It was great to see the biggest number of traders, biggest number of bands and singers, the crafts and games and of course mostly the record-breaking crowd who all seemed to really enjoy it.
“We couldn’t be any happier with how people have taken Orange Pip to their hearts and made it a monthly fixture on their calendars.
“To be expanding the event for a second time in just over a year – and to have had the festival-style Summer Special as well in that time – is fantastic. Not only do we have an event now regularly enjoyed by thousands but there is also a big boost to the wider local economy, with our best estimates showing Orange Pip to bring an extra £1m into Middlesbrough.”
Further details on the layout for Orange Pip Market expansion on Saturday, July 29, will be released in due course.
