Falls Awareness Week 2024: Steady On Your Feet

Published September 17, 2024 By

This week (16th - 22nd September) marks the start of Falls Awarness Week in the UK.

As Falls Awareness Week is here(16th to 22nd September), it is important to raise awareness on how to access support and improve everyday safety and wellbeing to stop falls from happening.

Falls are a major concern, especially among older adults, as they can lead to injuries with long-lasting impacts on health and independence. Fortunately, many falls among older people can be prevented. Reducing the risk of falls is crucial for maintaining the health, wellbeing, and independence of Middlesbrough’s elderly population.

There is one service in particular service from South Tees named 'Steady On Your Feet' who are supporting the health and wellbeing of older adults and people that may be at risk of falls to reduce the likelihood and risk of a fall happening.

Steady On Your Feet offers a dedicated website that provides tips and risks on how to reduce falls: https://south-tees.steadyonyourfeet.org/. The website is full of useful advice and "top tips" for staying active, independent, and minimizing the risk of falls. You can also complete a self-assessment and create a personal action plan to improve safety at home and in your daily life.
