England overcome the Mexican challenge, but what will it lead to?

Published July 06, 2026 By

Last night's game left many people in an outrage not for how it was played but the circumstances leading up to it.

The game was meant to be held at 1am, which is already a rough time to start but due to ignored warning of a thunderstorm it was rescheduled for a later time of 2am start. Many fans were outraged at this as it could have been discovered earlier and changed accordingly after talks were held which nothing came of. And before the game was due to kick off, the match was delayed by an hour from 1am until 2am, this then had a lasting effect on people leaving a sour head on people as reportedly the World Cup stated they have the right to "cancel, reschedule/relocate matches at it's sole discretion”.

Many suspected it to be England's final match, but our fate was not yet to be determined. Last night's game held quite a shocking but a satisfying end for England fans as the game was barely won 3-2 tho this conclusion leaves many fans disappointed for how England played, yet a vast majority are thrilled at its conclusion.

At first Mexico dominated and held possession moving the ball around quickly within the opening stage of the game stage of the game but quickly lost their glorious start as Jude Bellingham managed to capture the ball and scored an impressive two goals in just 98 seconds giving us a commanding lead by 2 goals.

Mexico City Stadium were paralyzed by such a progression for England but this did not discourage El Tri who quickly responded with Julian Quinones crashing a nasty shot past Jordan Pickford from a close range assault. Luckily a spectacular Pickford save managed to halt Raul Jimenez from leveling before half-time.

However Penalty drama arose with Kane who earned a foul by the England skipper on Brian Gutierrez. This resulted in a penalty being awarded to Mexico which was then scored by Raul Jimenez.

After Jarrell Quansah was sent off, England were forced to defend with 10 men, but they still found a way to extend their lead through a third goal through none other than Harry Kane with a penalty. Mexico then responded with their second goal, giving themselves hope late on. They attempted to put on the pressure in search of an equaliser to force the game into extra time, but England managed to hold on, securing the win and allowing them to look forward to their intense match in Miami against Norway.

Norway has its own impressive team and streak to boast, as in their match against Brazil they led an impressive assault and scored the game 2-1. One notable feature was a 35 year old Norwegian keeper Orjan Nyland who denied both Gabriel Martinelli and proceeded to also block Vinicius junior leaving Brazil with an unbroken score. But a very impressive play was by Erling Haaland who came up trumps with 2 goals on the day being the leading force to send his country through to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

All this resulted in Brazil's earliest exit from the World Cup since 1990. And for Norway it resulted in their first time reaching the final 8. Haaland is known for his aggressive plays and the question is whether he’ll scare their way to beating England.

The England and Norway match held on the 11th of this very month. Many speculate this could be England's end and where we raise our white flag. Or will this sour taste be clenched and cleaned with the result of the next match. Will England lose it's conquest like before? Will Norway secure a placement in the semi-finals? To hear a report on the match between England and Wales tune in to a CVFM broadcast as this game will be a toss up for any side.
