Tees Valley EDI Awards 2026

Published October 26, 2026 By

Inspiring individuals, community champions and burgeoning businesses were in the spotlight at a glittering awards event.

The 2026 EDI Awards were a showcase for regional trailblazers striving to build a more inclusive Tees Valley.

More than 300 guests gathered at Teesside University’s Digital Life building to see sixteen awards were presented to individuals, businesses and organisations whose achievements span community leadership, education, health, youth engagement, public services and business.

The annual awards celebrate achievements in equality, diversity and inclusion, recognising those making a positive difference to people's lives and helping create opportunities across the region.

One of the evening’s stand-out moments was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Kew Lim, recognising her longstanding contribution to the Chinese community and the wider Tees Valley.

Through her community work, Kew has supported older people, contributed to cultural and intercultural activities and helped bring communities together.

Her work has also included working with housing associations to develop a sheltered housing scheme for elderly members of the Chinese community.

Idrees Rashid, of BME Network CIC, one of the founding organisations behind the awards, said: “The Tees Valley EDI Awards are about recognising the people and organisations who make a real difference to the lives of others.

“Across our region, there are inspirational individuals, community groups and businesses working every day to create opportunities, overcome barriers and bring people together.

“Together, we can continue to champion equality, diversity and inclusion and help build a stronger, more connected Tees Valley.”

The awards were established in 2010 as the Tees Valley BME Achievement Awards and have since evolved into the Tees Valley EDI Awards, reflecting a wider commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Over the years, the awards have provided a platform for recognising people and organisations whose achievements deserve greater recognition, celebrating positive role models and encouraging greater understanding between communities.

Their continuing purpose is to shine a light on achievement, challenge barriers and celebrate the contribution of diverse communities to the region's future.

Tom Bryant, Chief Executive of headline sponsor Tees Valley Combined Authority, said: “These important awards rightly champion equality, diversity and inclusion, recognising the people and organisations helping to create stronger, more connected communities throughout the Tees Valley.

“They are a powerful celebration of the diverse people and organisations whose tireless work makes our amazing region a more resilient, fairer and more inclusive place to live, work and do business.”
