By Published December 06, 2019

AN annual event to support the homeless and those facing hardship is returning to Middlesbrough for its tenth year.

In Out of the Cold 2019 takes place on Tuesday, December 10 in The Crypt at Middlesbrough Town Hall from 1pm to 3pm.

And members of the public are being asked to donate filled shoe boxes to provide essential items for those in need.

The event is co-ordinated by Middlesbrough Council with support from a range of statutory, private and voluntary sector organisations and members of the public.

Advice and support are on hand for those experiencing difficulties, in a safe, relaxed and friendly environment.

Every year In Out of the Cold raises awareness of homelessness and hardship issues in the town, as well as providing hot food, entertainment and a carol service.

Suitable items for Christmas gift shoe boxes include:

  • Hats, scarves and gloves
  • Toiletries including toothbrushes/toothpaste
  • Sanitary items
  • Cleansing wipes and tissues
  • Lip balm

Middlesbrough Council and its partners offer outreach, accommodation and support to all those affected with housing need issues, as well as those experiencing other forms of hardship.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "Christmas is a time when our thoughts turn to home and family, but it's also a chance for us support those who find themselves isolated or disadvantaged due to homelessness.

"In Out of the Cold is a regular fixture that helps to raise awareness of some of the issues around homelessness, poverty and social exclusion, as well as offering support and advice to those in need."
