"Covid Marshals" To Help Middlesbrough People

Published December 17, 2020 By

A TEAM of "Covid Marshals" have been appointed to help Middlesbrough residents and visitors through the next phase of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Middlesbrough Council's library staff, parks staff and street wardens are now all wearing badges advising members of the public that they are available for help and information.

The team - made up of around 65 members of staff - do not have any additional powers but will be on hand to offer guidance and support.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "We really need to hammer home the message that Covid hasn't gone away.

"These members of staff wearing the ‘Covid Marshal' badge are frontline council workers who have already been doing everything they can to get us through this pandemic.

"We're starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with vaccines but we can't let all the sacrifices made already go to waste.

"Our ‘Covid Marshals' will be on hand to offer guidance to people and remind them of their responsibilities to help stop the spread."

Middlesbrough is currently in Tier 3 of Coronavirus restrictions which means additional measures for businesses - including the closure of bars and restaurants - and meeting people.
