Middlesbrough Council is administering a £1.6 million slice of the Government’s £500 million Household Support Fund, with vouchers going out to those in need from today (Friday, May 27).
In line with Government guidance, the fund is being split three ways between families with young children, pensioners and single people and couples who need extra financial support due to their circumstances.
The first tranche of one–off £60 supermarket vouchers are going out this week to parents of children in receipt of income-related Free School Meals based on information provided by schools
The payments are intended to provide support to families who may be struggling financially, but are not a direct replacement for Free School Meals during school holidays.
Alongside the fund, £150 payments are being made to households in bands A to D as part of the Council Tax Energy Rebate scheme.
The majority of payments to those who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit have now been delivered, and application instructions are now being issued to the remaining households.
Middlesbrough Council is also providing targeted support through its recently developed welfare solution, which considers all of a resident’s situation rather than focussing on one specific element.
This includes a range of support for residents to help with the rising cost of living – more information is available here Cost of living | Middlesbrough Council.
