GIVE A COAT A HOME BACK FOR A FOURTH YEAR IN WARMTH DRIVE

Give a Coat a Home is back for a fourth year to help people stay warm over the winter months.

Used coats are currently being collected across Middlesbrough, before being handed out to those in need at a special event next month.

The initiative is again being led by Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Linthorpe ward Councillor Philippa Storey.

A one-off event on Saturday, October 14 will see coats distributed to those calling in at the Pop-up Coat Shop at Newport Community Hub on St Paul’s Road.

They’ll be available to anyone who needs one, with coats arranged in age groups.

Members of the public are invited to donate unwanted coats in good condition ahead of the event allow time for them to be sorted.

 The donation points are:

• The Dorman Museum

• Middlesbrough Town Hall

• Windermere Care Home (Linthorpe)

• Newport Community Hub

• Grove Hill Community Hub

Benefit advice and free tea and coffee will be available at the event.

Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor Councillor Philippa Storey said: “Most of us take it for granted that we can wrap up warm when temperatures start to fall, but not everyone is so lucky.

“Household budgets are under unprecedented pressure, so it’smore important than ever that everyone has access to a warm winter coat.

“People are facing real hardship especially over the winter months, but no-one should have to make choice between eating and staying warm.

“Give a Coat a Home is a chance for those who might be struggling to pick up a pre-loved coat in excellent condition for free.”
