SPOOKY FUN AT MIDDLESBROUGH MUSEUMS THIS HALF TERM

Middlesbrough’s Dorman Museum is gearing up for some quirky Halloween activities with a Lego-themed twist this half term.

The museum’s popular Brick by Brick exhibition offers the chance to get up close with incredible LEGO® bricks-inspired artworks and sculptures from a spooky black brick ‘Psycho House’, inspired by Hitchcock’s famous horror, to a number of gothic-style lego creations.

The spooky half-term fun starts the weekend before Halloween and there’s plenty for little ones to get involved with including a chance to meet creepy cryptids, a sweet and sticky science experiment and adults can enjoy an after dark experience as the museum stays open for a unique ‘beer and bricks’ evening.

Dorman After Dark: An evening of beer and bricks is taking place on Friday, October 27 and is expected to sell out quickly.

Bringing together spooky fun with Lego-themed activities, over 18’s can head along to the museum after the lights go down to enjoy themed bingo, Halloween cocktails and treats and take part in the Lego build challenges plus there’s the chance to create your very own bat, pumpkin or sugar skull artwork to take home. The venue’s popular virtual reality ride takes on a frightful twist throughout October – hop on the simulator if you dare.

The Dorman Brick or Treat Weekend is happening Saturday 28 and Sunday, October 29.Led by the master builders from Brick Box, pop along on either day from 10.30am – 12.30pm for a morning of spooktacular Lego build challenges before an afternoon of creepy craft makingFans of all things kooky can head to the museum on Halloween itself for The Museum of Cryptozoology.

From Big Foot to Loch Ness, from fairies to goblins, find out more about the elusive Cryptids and have a go at the activity trail before getting up close and personal with some real life animals that are inspired by the Cryptids.

Mini witches and wizards can get their hands messy at the Spooky Sweet Science workshop on Wednesday, November 1.

Little ones can bring along their leftover Halloween treats to create a sweet and sticky cauldron’s brew filled with plenty of fizz, crackle and pop.

Mixing all things ego with robots, the Build a Spiro-Bot! session is must-do for any robot fans this half term and there’s two sessions to choose from on Friday, November 3.

Learn from the robot building experts who will build a mini robot that can draw.

Also taking place at the venue during October as part of Black History Month is Island Movement – a moving ballet performance about Windrush which is taking place on Friday, October 20.

The moving tale follows a young Caribbean soldier and his family as they live through the Second World War Britain and explores their family’s journey through to the current Windrush scandal. The performance is followed by a Q&A with the dancers and creators.

To celebrate Captain Cook’s birthday, head down to Stewart Park on Saturday, October 28 for free cake, crafts and special birthday celebrations – and look out for a very special guest.

Ahead of the doors shutting for winter, Captain Cook Birthplace Museum is also hosting an Explosive Crafts workshop on 2 November.

There’s a whole heap of Halloween fun happening at Newham Grange Farm with plenty activities taking place throughout the month including pumpkin picking and carving, arts and crafts, a spooky trail and spot prizes for the best outfit.
