Week of works to The Crown set to start

Published March 11, 2025 By

Motorists are being warned of a brief period of disruption while essential works are carried out to a central Middlesbrough building.

Temporary lane closures will be in place next week around the junction of Borough Road and Linthorpe Road while a survey and structural works are undertaken at The Crown.

Work is due to start on Monday, March 17, with completion expected by the end of the week.

The former pub closed in 2015 and was acquired by Middlesbrough Council in 2023.

The site is due for redevelopment by the Middlesbrough Development Corporation overseen by Tees Valley Combined Authority.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “Lane closures are unavoidable when undertaking works of this kind to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

“We would therefore urge drivers to avoid the area where possible while the work is being carried out, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
