The move follows complaints from members of the public about reduced visibility and damage to vehicles caused by trees on parts of Stainton Way in Hemlington.
Expert contractors will therefore remove the first line of trees near the entrance to the Dales estate and near the entrance to Stainton.
The trees concerned are struggling for sufficient light and are leaning towards the road causing a hazard.
The removals will improve the line of sight from the junction to address concerns over driver and pedestrian safety.
Further works on other sections of Stainton Way will be carried out in due course.
Councillor Peter Gavigan, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive member for Environment & Sustainability, said: “Works of this nature are only undertaken when absolutely necessary, and to ensure the safety of the public.
“We’ve had a number of complaints from members of the public about trees at this location, and their continued growth is creating a hazard for drivers and pedestrians.
“The work is being undertaken by experienced contractors, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
