Six months after work started on Outwood Academy Riverside, much of the building’s outer frame is now complete.
The new school is being developed in Middlehaven on land close to Middlesbrough College.
With views of the Transporter Bridge and the Riverside Stadium, it will welcome students next year.
The project is led by the Department for Education and Outwood Grange Academy Trust in partnership with Middlesbrough Council. Construction work is led by Bowmer + Kirkland.
Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said: “These are fantastic images to share at the start of a New Year. The team on site are doing a great job. A part of Middlehaven’s future is well and truly taking shape.”
Cllr Philippa Storey, Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Education, said: “It’s exciting to see how much progress is being made.
“With the completion of this project, the staff and students at Outwood Academy Riverside will finally get the facilities they have long deserved.”
The progress at the school comes at an exciting time for Middlehaven.
Work is expected to start soon on a multi-million pound restoration of Middlesbrough’s Old Town Hall following a successful bid to The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
And last year Mayor Cooke announced plans to build more than 3,000 homes and develop new leisure and retail spaces in areas close to the Old Town Hall and towards the waterfront.
