The anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be commemorated in Middlesbrough next month with the annual Parade and Service.
This year’s event takes place at the Cenotaph on Linthorpe Road on Sunday, September 13 and has been organised by 1869 (Middlesbrough) Sqn Air Cadets.
In commemoration of the 86th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Air Cadet squadrons from around the area will be on parade at the Cenotaph at 11.30am where a short service and wreath-laying ceremony will be held.
The Battle of Britain saw the German air force attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF from July to September 1940.
Their defeat prevented Germany from invading Britain and was one of the turning points of World War Two.
Councillor Linda Lewis, Middlesbrough Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “The Battle of Britain was a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and our annual Parade and Service is fitting recognition of all those who played their part.
“The people of Middlesbrough will never forget the sacrifice made by the many brave men and women who laid down their lives for the freedoms we enjoy to this day.”
