Let's Go Tees Valley Travel Advisors will be advising jobseekers, workplaces and employees across Middlesbrough through to the end of March about how best to get to work and job interviews in the Tees Valley area.
The Travel Advisors plan to visit approximately 250 employers and are hoping to advise around 5,000 staff working on the Riverside Industrial Estate.
Using greener transport, such as walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing, can ease parking issues, reduce local congestion, improve air quality and has a wealth of benefits for employee health and wellbeing.
In addition, at Jobcentres across Middlesbrough, Let's Go Tees Valley Travel Advisors will speak to jobseekers to offer one-to-one travel advice sessions, to help with travel to interviews, training and jobs in locations they may not have previously considered.
Journey planning with a Travel Advisor will show the cheapest and easiest ways to get from A to B without the need to own and run a car. The advisors also provide bus and train timetables and bus taster tickets and will be telling employers about a prepaid new worker bus ticket offered by Arriva and Stagecoach to Tees Valley employees starting a new job.
Councillor Ashley Waters, Executive member for Regeneration at Middlesbrough Council, commented: "This is a great opportunity for employees on the Riverside Industrial Estate to find out what other realistic commuting options are available, which do not depend on owning a car.
"Helping businesses manage parking demand and reducing local congestion within the estate can have a real benefit to the workplaces and staff based there.
"We welcome this opportunity to help employees and jobseekers consider their transport options to make a greener, healthier Middlesbrough."
Alex Kay, Transport Planning Officer at Darlington Borough Council, said: "We are looking forward to speaking with Middlesbrough employers and their staff over the coming weeks.
"We hope that the advice we offer will encourage people to be more active, save money and improve the environment in their local community.
"We would ask businesses within Riverside Industrial Estate to contact us and we are also particularly interested in reaching jobseekers to help them look at with their travel options."
