Members of the public are also being called on to play their part to keep the local economy alive, while staying within the law and keeping one another safe.
And Middlesbrough Council this week pledged to continue to do everything in its power to support local enterprise and protect jobs as the latest Covid-19 restrictions take effect.
Since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic and the first wave of lockdown in March, the Council has supported local businesses with nearly £25 million in emergency and discretionary grants, and administered rates relief for the retail, hospitality and leisure sector.
The Buy Boro scheme was launched at the height of the pandemic with a free online directory to help Teessiders find local goods and services and support the local economy.
And the Council continues to lobby - with clear and compelling business cases - for all available regional and central government funding to see the town through the crisis.
Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "The latest localised restrictions are hitting Middlesbrough businesses hard, and that's creating anxiety and frustration for everyone involved.
"As a Council we are determined do everything we can to preserve jobs and people's livelihoods, and we will continue to push Government hard for the support businesses need to deal with a situation that is totally out of their control.
"We're making the strongest possible case for the resources we need to help businesses weather the impact of greater local lockdown.
"We've had some amazing backing from Government so far to support the businesses that are town's life-blood and that provide income and security for so many - but there's always more we can do.
"For now I'd urge businesses to hang in there if they possibly can - help is on its way, and we will issue updates as soon as we're able to.
"There are better times ahead, and by working together we will come through this."
